What’s Your Story? The One That’s Blaming Your Partner for No Morning Glory

Let’s talk about the quiet stories we tell ourselves in our relationships.
You know the ones.
They sound like:

“They don’t even try anymore.”
“I’m too tired for sex.”
“We’ve grown apart.”
“They never initiate.”
“They’ve changed.”

And here’s a popular one I hear in sessions:
“They’re just not giving me what I need.”

Now, look –  I’m not here to dismiss your feelings. Some of these things might be true. But what I am here to do is call out the part most people don’t want to hear:

Your story might be blocking your intimacy more than your partner is.

Yeah. I said it. And you may not like me for that. That’s ok.

Morning Glory Doesn’t Just Happen… and Neither Does Connection

We romanticise spontaneous intimacy. The rolling over in bed, barely awake, skin on skin, hot kind of magic. But when that fades (because: life, kids, stress, resentment, routine), we tell ourselves the spark is gone. They’re the problem. They’ve stopped showing up.

But what if the truth is:

You’ve stopped showing up too.

You’ve stopped reaching out.
Stopped initiating.
Stopped flirting, touching, asking, playing.
Stopped trying.

Ouch.

It’s a hard pill to swallow, but one that can change everything if you’re brave enough to reflect on it.

The Blame Game Feels Safer Than Vulnerability

It’s easier to say, “They don’t do it for me anymore,” than to admit, “I’ve closed off emotionally.”
It’s easier to complain, “They never want sex,” than to ask yourself, “Have I made it safe, warm, or inviting for them to want it with me?”
It’s easier to stay disconnected and let resentment build than to say, “I miss you, and I don’t know how to reach you right now.”

We use blame like a shield.
A way to protect ourselves from disappointment, from rejection, from the fear that maybe… just maybe… we’re part of the problem too.

So… What’s YOUR Story?

Because we all have one. That little internal monologue running the show, keeping us comfortable in our own justifications.

Let me share with you:

Your story might be costing you the connection you crave.

Here are a few common ones I hear:

StoryReal Question to Ask Instead
“They never initiate.”Do I make it safe or sexy for them to initiate? Or am I sitting back and waiting to be pursued?
“We’ve lost the spark.”Have I done anything lately to light it again? Or have I just hoped it would magically reappear?
“They don’t listen to me.”Do I really express what I need clearly and calmly — or do I expect them to read my mind?
“They’re not romantic anymore.”Have I stopped bringing fun, surprise, and flirtation into our lives too?

Stop Waiting. Start Reflecting.

Your relationship doesn’t need perfect circumstances to thrive. It needs intention.
It needs action.
It needs both people to own their side.

So today, I invite you to get curious:

What stories am I telling that keep me safe but disconnected?
How do I contribute to the very things I complain about?
If I showed up differently… would they?

This isn’t about blame. It’s about truth. And the truth is:
If you want more morning glory — and more joy, passion, play, and pleasure — it starts with you.

Be the spark.
Be the invitation.
Be the one who shifts the story.

Because the only thing worse than a relationship without intimacy…
…is being stuck in the same old excuse that keeps you from creating it.
